Students entering the ninth grade are required
to attend summer courses in English and math. Summer school is optional
for students entering grades 10 to 12.
Incoming ninth graders must pass both of the required
summer courses in English and math to be eligible to join the freshman
class in August. In addition to their classes, incoming freshmen
register for the upcoming school year during the summer session.
Student schedules for summer courses will be mailed
by June 1. Any concerns should be referred to Linda Debo at (808)
734-5058, ext. 223.
Optional courses offered during the summer for high school credit
include:
- Introduction to Computers
- Ceramics
- Physical Education
These courses fulfill graduation requirements
and may be taken by any Academy student entering grades nine to
12.
School uniforms are not worn during the summer session. The summer
school dress code for all classes is a short-sleeve t-shirt that
is worn tucked into long jeans. Athletic shoes may be worn at all
times. The t-shirt must be appropriate to a school environment –
those with inappropriate language or pictures are prohibited - and
long enough to be able to tuck inside their jeans. If a student
is not dressed appropriately, she will be sent home.
Homework sheets will be distributed each Monday. Mid-term grades
will be given at the end of the second week. At the end of the fifth
week of class, a report card will be mailed home to parents.
Juice machines are available on campus, and the cafeteria will be
open throughout the morning. However, no food should be brought
to the classrooms.
Summer school absences should be reported to the High School office
at (808) 734-5058, ext. 221 by 9 a.m. the day of the absence.
Students are reminded not to forget physical exams. All new and
returning students entering grades nine and 11 and all new students
entering grades 10 and 12 must turn in a completed physical exam
form before the first day of school on August 24. All students must
be up-to-date with their immunizations. A TB clearance is required
for all new students.
