The Physical Education (PE) Department promotes the importance of a healthy lifestyle which includes physical and emotional fitness. The benefits of physical activity and good nutrition are learned in theory, and more importantly, through practice. PE classes help students improve their individual abilities by setting personal goals; develop teamwork and compassion by working cooperatively in group sports; understand and practice healthy nutritional habits; use fitness equipment properly and safely; and learn respect for others of differing physical abilities.
Students learn and apply the basics and rules of organized sports and the logistics of motor skills and principles to improve these skills. Guest speakers bring added interest and dimension to discussions of health and sports.
Students in grades seven and eight can elect to take PE as an elective; those in grades nine to 12 need one PE credit to meet graduation requirements. Students in grades nine to 12 who participate in Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH) Athletics, Cheerleading at Saint Louis School or SHA marching Band may use credit toward fulfilling graduation requirements.
