• Attend Alumae Forum–recent graduates talk about their experiences in college
(3rd week of December)

FEBRUARY 2006
• Begin to think which colleges you would like to explore.
• Keep up your grades. Junior year grades are very important! It is usually the latest grades colleges will see when you initially apply.

MARCH – APRIL
• SAT—April 1 (registration deadline 2/24) • ACT--April 18 (registration deadline 3/3)
• Make appointment to register for senior year classes and preliminary discussion about college. These are to be completed for all juniors by the end of April. Continue to challenge yourself when selecting your classes.
APRIL – MAY
• Spring break is an excellent time to visit mainland colleges and universities.
• SAT I and SAT II (Subject Tests)--May 6 (registration deadline 4/3). Registration packets are available through Mr. Fong. See Mr. Fong about taking the test)
• Attend the National Association of College Admissions Counselors Annual College Fair held in early May at the Hawaii Convention Center.
• Take AP exams in May

JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST
• Think about taking a summer college class. University of Hawaii Summer Scholars Program is a good option (must have a minimum 3.5 GPA).
• SAT I and/or SAT II (Subject Tests)--June 3 (registration deadline 4/28). This date is especially important if you have not taken any subject tests before this time. Remember SAT II Subject Tests: subject tests in math (1 or 2), US History, foreign language and science are usually good choices for the tests.
• ACT--June 10 (registration deadline 5/5)
• College counseling appointment with Mr. Fong and your parents.
• Send requests to colleges for applications, catalogs and financial aid information. College addresses are found in college guides in Mr. Fong’s office or on-line.
• Visit colleges during the summer, if possible. This is a great time to work college visits into your family’s summer travel plans. You don’t have to visit colleges on your preliminary list, but visiting almost any campus can be good practice for visits you will make later to colleges to which you might apply. You can also visit local colleges for this same type of “practice visit”.
• Add colleges to your list that interest you; delete others that do not.
• Complete your Senior Profile and Parent Questionnaire and mail it to Mr. Fong before school starts.
• Spend time with your college essays. Work on rough drafts of one or two essays. Give yourself plenty of time to write a rough draft, then begin to polish it and make it truly yours. Have these essays close to final form before school begins in the fall. Have your teachers or Mr. Fong check your essay.
