Overview

The athletic program at Sacred Hearts Academy adheres to the school’s mission statement of educating young women. The school recognizes that athletics is an integral part of a student’s education and seeks to develop a well-rounded student, physically and academically. It also seeks to instill the principles of sportsmanship, advocate citizenship and to emphasize fair play in keeping with the spirit of the game.

Lancer teams have competed in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH) since 1971 and have also enjoined with Pac-Five and other smaller schools in forming teams in various sports. Students have access to nearly all of the sports sanctioned by the HHSAA (Hawaii High School Athletic Association) and the ILH.  The Academy has strived to field competitive teams in all sports.  Air riflery has captured  four ILH and three State Championships.

Depending on their experience and ability levels; students in grades 7 to 12 are eligible to participate on either the Intermediate, Junior Varsity or Varsity levels. Some sports such as soccer and tennis, allow students to participate in more than one level of the sport in the same school year.  Students in grades 5-8 are also eligible for participation in the Catholic School League (CSL). Students in grades 4-6 have limited access to the Christian School Athletic League (CSAL).

“Sacred Hearts Academy selected St. Joan of Arc as the patron saint of athletes because she was a strong and valiant young woman during her time.”

Joan of Arc led the French troops at the head of the battalions and carried the lance with the banner of France into battle. She inspired the troops by giving them the heart and strength to fight. She possessed the strength of will and determination to overcome great obstacles. Academy athletes take pride in being known as the “Lancers”, exhibiting the same spirit, courage and discipline of their patron saint, Joan of Arc.
