Sacred Hearts Academy recognizes that athletics is an integral part of a student’s education and offers a wide variety of sports to complement its academic curriculum. The program strives to develop a well-rounded student, physically and academically, and to instill the principles of sportsmanship and fair play.
During her participation in athletics at the Academy, the student learns the true meaning of commitment. She bears the primary responsibility for balancing her schedule and organizing her time in order to maximize her growth. The student and parent understand that it is a privilege and not a right to represent the school. A student-athlete must always be mindful of her commitment to academics and responsibilities to her family at home.
The Academy emphasizes Christian principles and values, and students are given the opportunity to participate in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH) and to understand and appreciate the benefits of discipline, training, teamwork, dedication and respect for authority and rules. Coaches are responsible for teaching gamesmanship to their team, all while emphasizing “student first, athlete second.”
Finally, for the faculty, staff, students, parents, alumnae and supporters, the athletic program provides an identity that promotes pride and loyalty to the school. It assists in the development of students by encouraging them to be positive, contributing members of the school community to which they belong.
Sacred Hearts Academy athletes take pride in being known as the Lancers, mindful of that same spirit, courage and discipline of their patron saint, Joan of Arc.
